Calcium 200mg &
Magnesium 75mg
Calcium is an important structural mineral, 90%
of calcium absorbed from the diet goes into bones and teeth. Usually,
only 30 % - 40 % of calcium present in the diet is absorbed by the
body. Calcium also plays a crucial role in blood clotting, muscle
contraction, nerve condition, the smooth functioning of the immune
system and the production of energy.
Adults require a daily calcium intake of between
700 and 1000mg, those at risk of osteoporosis (women over the age
of 45) will need as much as 1500mg daily.
Calcium is absorbed in the small intestine, a
process that is dependant on the presence of vitamin D. Our Calcium
& Magnesium tablets are fortified with vitamin D, zinc, boron
and copper.
Magnesium is the fourth most common metal stored
in the body, with 70% found in the bones and teeth. Magnesium is
responsible for the function of over 300 enzymes, and is vital for
every major metabolic reaction from synthesis of protein and genetic
material to the production of energy from glucose. Few enzymes can
work without Magnesium, it is now known to help maintain healthy
tissues, especially those in the muscles, lung airways, blood vessels
and nerves. Magnesium regulates the movement of calcium in and out
of cells, magnesium is important for bone health and the prevention
of osteoporosis.
A lack of magnesium is relatively common and
may affect as many as 1 in 10 people. Magnesium deficiency can lead
to loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, weakness, muscle trembling
or cramps, numbness and tingling, loss of co-ordination, palpitations,
hyperactivity and low blood sugar.
Having low levels of magnesium in the body has
been linked with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and pre-menstrual
syndrome (PMS). Magnesium is especially helpful in reducing PMS
associated symptoms of irritability, depression, anxiety, tiredness,
fluid retention, weight gain, bloating and breast tenderness.
The recommended daily intake of magnesium is
150-500mg.
Four Alternative Medicines Calcium & Magnesium
